Recent Events

August 2024 Public Scoping - The Department of City Planning held a scoping hearing on the Long Island City Neighborhood Plan on August 12, 2024. This remote meeting was an opportunity for the public to comment on the environmental review, including recommendations on what should be included in the analysis.

June 2024 Town Hall - The Department of City Planning, Council Member Julie Won, and WXY Studio hosted a town hall to share draft strategies, which were the City’s preliminary proposals for potential policy changes, capital projects, and programs & services, as well as an accompanying zoning proposal for new housing and economic opportunities.

May 2024 Focus Area Meetings - During these two meetings, the Department of City Planning workshopped a draft "land use framework" with the community. This framework responded to community recommendations heard throughout the planning process, and proposed changes to regulations around how buildings can be used and their size and shape.

April 2024 Town Hall - At this town hall, the Department of City Planning, Council Member Julie Won, and WXY Studio went over a set of community recommendations developed over the last few months. Multiple city agencies added their input to describe how these recommendations relate to current city policy and existing initiatives.

January-February 2024 Focus Area Meetings - To help formulate community recommendations for the Long Island City Neighborhood Plan, the Department of City Planning, Council Member Julie Won, and WXY Studio hosted three focus area meetings in early 2024 where New Yorkers were invited to discuss specific topics: the public realm, transportation, and resiliency; housing; and economic development, arts & culture, and community resources.

December 2023 Focus Area Meetings - Following the Long Island City Neighborhood Plan kick-off meeting, the Department of City Planning, Council Member Julie Won, and WXY Studio held three topic-specific focus area meetings to gather ideas and input from the community. These discussions focused on housing; economic development, arts & culture, and community resources; and the public realm, transportation, and resiliency.

Community Planning Kick-off Town Hall - Community members joined the Department of City Planning, Council Member Julie Won, city agencies, and facilitator WXY Studio to learn about the community planning process and share thoughts on the future of Long Island City.
