Through the OneLIC neighborhood planning process, New York City is seeking community input about how to activate the City-owned sites in Anable Basin to support community priorities such as affordable housing, waterfront open space, resilient infrastructure, school seats, commercial space, and community facilities for recreation, arts, and culture.
The City-owned sites comprise approximately 7 acres across two blocks. One block features a large, six-story office and warehouse building owned and used by the Department of Education (44-36 Vernon). The other block includes several 1-2 story buildings owned and used by the Department of Transportation. Under the OneLIC plan, these sites could be repurposed or redeveloped for a combination of uses through new buildings, adaptive reuse of 44-36 Vernon, and/or public space.
